Ultrasound Technician Certification
Get Your Ultrasound Technician Certification
As with any other jobs in the healthcare industry, ultrasound technicians must undergo formal training and obtain certification. Many schools offer certification technician ultrasound, providing students with both medical classroom (or online) lectures and clinical training. Achieving certification technician ultrasound is easy and a great way for individuals wanting to start a new career path.
The duration of a technician ultrasound program could range from one to four years. After high school, you can obtain a certification technician ultrasound for one to two years. However, you can also pursue education and obtain an associates degree for two years or a bachelor's degree for four years.
After obtaining certification technician ultrasound, you can also register with the American Register of Diagnostic Sonographers (ADRMS) by attending a program accredited by the CAAHEP (Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs) or undergoing one year of work study in a medical setting under the supervision of the SDMS (Society for Diagnostic Medical Sonography).
Certification technician ultrasound from the ADRMS is not a requirement for all techs. However, it does give you the opportunity to increase your current salary and enjoy career advancements. Once you have completed the certification technician ultrasound, it is best to undergo continuing education and recertification.
During the program to obtain certification technician ultrasound, expect to receive training in anatomy, physics, physiology, patient care, medical terminology, professional ethics and ultrasound instrumentation. Some programs provide specialty training in areas such as obstetric and gynecology sonography, neurosonography and abdominal sonography. If you're planning on specialization, some schools require you to have previous experience in the medical field. Most programs, however, require only a high school diploma or a GED.
Be aware that you cannot obtain a certification technician ultrasound without clinical externship. While no state requires licensure in medical sonography, so you don’t need to worry about obtaining a professional license, it is best to obtain certification to measure your professional competency as an ultrasound technician for an advantage during employment processes.
